一心想当侦探的张西北，在阴差阳错之下通过马桶，穿越回民国十九年的上海滩。因被人诬陷“杀害”许文强而锒铛入狱，在同样穿越过来的好友贾东南的帮助才得以越狱。张西北为了洗脱罪名，跟踪现场目击者—明报记者杜小菲，又遇到女友小南，却和路依萍共用一个身体，并且只有在听见张西北说“分手”时，才会记得以前的事。张西北急于洗脱自己的罪名以及帮小南找回记忆，谁知又被卷进了路大萍的谋杀案中。。Cowboy James Franciscus seeks fame and fortune by capturing a Tyrannosaurus Rex living in the Forbidden Valley and putting it in a Mexican circus.
