四十年代初期的大上海，日军侵华。以沉师傅为首的“常福马戏杂技团”正表演“空中飞人”之际，日军突然挥军南下，沉师傅只有解散马戏团，带着大女儿丁梅、二女儿丁兰、三女儿丁菊、大女婿即大徒弟及三个小孤儿徒弟义南、义西、义北南下广东，投靠亲友。。Carmen learns that her daughter Maria died in an accident.
