赛迪（布里安娜·希尔德布兰 Brianna Hildebrand 饰）和麦凯拉（亚历山德拉·西普 Alexandra Shipp 饰）是青梅竹马的好友，两人共同创办了名为“悲剧女孩”的推特公众号，报道当地发生的大大小小的杀人案件，并且试图追踪案件背后的真相。 两个姑娘最大的愿望就是希望她们的公众号能够一炮而红，甚至为了有能够报道的新闻而不惜成为凶杀案的制造者。可是，很快她们便发现，对于这些她们亲手犯下的罪案，当地警方总是以“意外”为幌子试图隐瞒案件。乔丹（杰克·奎德 Jack Quaid 饰）是赛迪和麦凯拉的“助手”，帮助她们剪辑和发布视频，与此同时，乔丹也是警长布兰恩（蒂莫西·墨菲 Timothy V.
