面对突然起来的外星人入侵，地球的军队不堪一击，各国政府的政权也土崩瓦解。六个月之后，地球上仅有少部分人存活了下来，为了能赶走外星人，重建家园。这部分人奋起进行着各种各样的抵抗。汤姆·梅森（诺亚·怀尔 Noah Wyle 饰）原本是一名历史学教授，因为外星人的入侵家破人亡。他带着自己的三个儿子加入了抵抗军团，努力对抗着外星人。而外星人一直劫掠人类的小孩儿，给他们装上背甲，变成自己的奴隶。抵抗军团因此除了与外星人周旋外，还要想尽办法解救这些被控制的孩子们。但是由于武力悬殊，抵抗军团一直处于劣势地位，到处躲避着外星人的围追堵截。直到有一天，抵抗军中的一人开发出利用外星人机甲制造的子弹，这种子弹能有效击穿外星人的机甲给予外星人致命打击。这时，抵抗军团才看到了武力上稍微向他们倾斜了一点，因此计划着向外星人的一个据点发起一次突然袭击……。Somewhere on isolated mountainous plain.
