陈云轩和女儿陈秀娟来到台湾，日夜思念着久别的亲人和故土。陈秀娟随生物考察船出海时，遇海盗，秀娟跳海后被方杰所救。两人被海浪送到一个荒岛，秀娟看见“八一”军徽的直升飞机时，因为想着爸爸一个人在台湾而没有点燃信号，方杰却以为秀娟太不了解大陆了。秀娟告诉方杰台湾人民对大陆的迷恋，两人产生了难以言叙的爱情。秀娟被救回大陆后，意外找到了分离30年的母亲和弟弟。但秀娟不得不同母亲、弟弟和方杰分别，她回到台湾后，和父亲一起遥望着大陆，呼唤着妈妈。。The disappearance of his wife leaves Fernando, a quiet geography professor, devastated.
