与英版类同，美版每集皆有独立的案件及一位等待法庭判决的被告，而剧中会重新描述被告的背景及被指控什么案件，同时让观众思考他是否有罪。。主人公杰克是一位刚被解雇了的前FBI人质解救小组警员，他以为自己再也没机会重操旧业了。谁料几个月后，杰克乘坐的航班突然被一伙装备精良的恐怖分子所劫持，他们威胁说如果收不到十亿美元，就将引爆核武器……。Set in a small town in West Texas, four boyhood friends who made a solemn promise to leave town together immediately after high school graduation must now "put up or shut up."
