电影讲述，宋朝年间，桂英为葬父而卖身，落入烟花成为名妓。一天，桂英在雪地里救了书生王魁并结为夫妻。桂英全力支持王魁读书。在赴京赶考前，两人在海神庙发誓互不负心。怎知一年后，高中的王魁差人送来一纸休书。桂英来到海神庙，恳求海神主持公道。桂英产生幻觉，觉得自己变成了鬼，判官准她去捉拿王魁。王魁先是巧言哄骗，后来竟恶毒的羞辱桂英，更要将桂英刺死，这时，小鬼将王魁拿下。然而，这只是一场梦，醒来一切如故。。Norman, a retired police officer, works as a night security guard in a building.
